I do not ever write negative reviews, but feel compelled to share my experience with Smile SF so that it may serve as a warning to others. I recently moved to San Fransisco and was forced to find a new dentist after years of visiting one that I loved on the East Coast. I found Smile SF through OpenCare and felt assured by their excellent Google reviews. My visit started off on a challenging foot, with the hygienist continually failing to take proper x-rays of my teeth,. She eventually needed to take at least ten additional x-rays. I then met with Dr. Sefidvash for an exam which consisted of a review of my x-rays, an oral cancer screen, and a scan of my periodontal pockets in which she repeatedly stabbed the probe into the soft tissue of my gums, causing them to bleed. She told me I had 5 and 6 mm periodontal pockets, visible bone loss from periodontal disease, and four cavities that needed to be filled immediately. She said I needed a “deep cleaning” (which I’d need to be sedated for) and a set of fillings that would run me $3500, though lucky me, with insurance I’d only be out 1k. I was very surprised to hear this, given that I had most recently visited my dentist less than a year ago and he had noted none of these issues. I am also 23 years old, healthy, and have had no problems with sensitivity or bleeding that would indicate any problem. For this reason, I booked an appointment for a second opinion. The second dentist told me I had no visible periodontal issues, no bone loss, and zero cavities that needed filling. I would advise people to avoid this office, or at least to seek out second opinions if told unexpected bad news.

I am so scared to go to the dentist and I require taking Lorazepam to even get my butt in the door. Dr. Farah is so knowledgeable, warm and comforting and educated me along the way and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I almost fell asleep during my cleaning and cavity being filled. Her dental hygienist was so incredible as well and informative and made me feel really safe and comfortable. THANK YOU!!!

Dr. Farah and the staff at Smile SF are great! They were kind, courteous, and did a really good job of explaining what needed to be done to help me out with my dental issues. I ended up having an unrelated dental emergency on a day that their office was closed, and Dr. Farah responded to the email I sent her with some x-rays right away to give me her opinion. Thanks, Smile SF!

I hadn’t been to the dentist in a very long time after struggling with alcoholism and addiction in my twenties. My teeth had seen better days, and I had a lot of shame around not taking care of myself.Dr. Farah (and team) have improved my mouth health immensely in just a few short weeks, and at no point during this process have I felt any judgement or ridicule. Very warm and inclusive bunch! They’ve also done a great job educating me on the finer points of at-home dental care, and been very transparent about every step along the way.Anyway, long story short, I’m very happy to have found such a great dentist, and highly recommend Dr. Farah and her team.

I can tell you in all the years I have had work done I have never had such a kind patient dentist. I have the biggest fear of the dentist to the point where I get massive panic attacks. They made me feel so comfortable. Made sure I didn't feel any pain at all. One of my favorite thing is she is fully focused on your teeth not a lot of small talk. It means a lot to me because with my fear I just want to get in and out. She takes lots of pictures shows you the process so you can see exactly what's going on with your tooth. I just love her and her team. On top of all that my teeth look and feel fabulous. I never ever thought I would say that. I feel like it's such a difference. I think I've been us to places that I just get something done and your tooth is in survival mode then this place feels like there's so much love put into your teeth. It's not a quick fix. She really showed me how to truly take care of my teeth. She also calls to make sure your ok. I am so happy. BEST PRACTICE EVER!

I hate to be “that person” giving a 1-star, but I chose to come here solely based on Google reviews, so it’s only fair that I’m transparent with my experience here. I was duped into thinking that this was a fair dental practice. I hadn’t been to the dentist in a few years for a regular appointment, and was experiencing gum sensitivity. I made an appointment to get checked out, and paid nearly $400 for someone to take pictures of my teeth with a digital camera and tell me I needed to come back in two months for a “two hour deep clean.” I had no dental insurance, but was desperate to have a healthy mouth. I paid nearly $2,000 for the promise of two full hours of deep cleaning, a check-in and follow up cleaning, and “tools to keep my mouth healthy.” I thought wow, this is expensive, but sounds like I’ll get my money’s worth. For my “deep clean,” the hygienist spent a full hour failing at numbing my mouth and seriously hurting me. I’ve never been to a dentist who can’t numb me in 5 minutes. It was horrible and I was almost in tears. The dentist came in and said I had to get laughing gas because “you’re not actually in pain you just have anxiety.” So I paid an extra $55 for it. Felt everything. The “deep clean” was only 45 minutes. Not two hours. I called and complained honestly about the experience, and they just said “sorry it wasn’t great, let’s book your follow ups.” I made it clear that I didn’t want to come back for any appointment that wasn’t already covered by the ~$2,000 down payment. I came in once for a brief check-in, then again for my cleaning. They charged me an additional $200~ because I had “run out of credits.” I’m so upset that I ever came here and losing that much money to what felt like a regular cleaning will haunt me and my finances for awhile. Oh, and they didn’t give me any “tools” to take care of my teeth. That was just another false promise to sell me.

Wow! I always love going to Smile SF. Farah is the most detail oriented, empathetic, & charismatic dentist and person. She truly is one of a kind. All of the employees at Smile SF are equally as caring and thorough. The space is beautiful and well kept. Even though it’s a far drive for me from my home, I still choose to go to Smile SF because I know I will be treated with the upmost respect and receive the best possible care. I highly recommend Smile SF, Farah, and her team :)

I want to take a moment to both thank and recommend Dr. Farah Sefidvash and her staff on the excellent care they provide for my dad’s dental needs. Everyone in the office is kind, patient and knowledgeable not only about dentistry, but also the specific needs of seniors. In addition to providing excellent care, the office is state of the art, and they are very responsive via phone, email and text communications. The practice accepts all dental PPO plans and they are always on time: if your appointment is at 2:00pm-you see the doctor or the dental hygienist at 2:00pm-no waiting or toggling between patients. If you are in need of a gentle, caring dentist you need look no further. The office is located in Pacific Heights, and is easily accessible by MUNI.

I'm a huge fan of Smile SF!Dr. Farah Sefidvash has been my dentist for 6 years now and I have absolutely nothing but praises for her and her team. She has a keen eye for details when it comes to oral health. I trust her and all of her dental hygienists fully. Apart from Dr. Sefidvash being a truly skilled dentist, she is kind and always makes time to connect on a personal level which feels so comforting in life but especially at the dentist's office. The office inside is well styled and always clean—professionalism that provides a sense of assurance. The location is beautiful with a glimpse of the Bay on your commute there. I actually moved further away to Bernal Heights but I still come to Smile SF because I love the community and I feel at home every time I visit!I couldn't suggest a better dentist.
